Raising Alpacas for Breeding Stock & Fiber
Wednesday, April 24, 2019
1PM - 4PM
Littlebird Alpacas of River Ridge Farms
670 River Ridge Rd
Dillwyn, Virginia
Learn from farmer Mary Martinez-Rigo about the business and potential for raising alpacas on your farm. Alpacas are members of the Camelid family as are the vicuna, guanaco, llama and camel. Alpacas are raised for their fiber as well as seed stock. The workshop will include information on breeding stock selection, dedicated husbandry and managed nutrition.
At Littlebird Alpacas the herd is shorn annually. Participants will learn about shearing, harvesting of fiber as well as end product production.
This workshop is sure to provide a new perspective on livestock and the rewards of small-scale farming!
