State Apiarist, Keith Tignor, will present a Zoom lecture followed by a hands-on demonstration via livestream on how to inspect hives and how to expand hives for the start of the bee season. This workshop is geared toward those with no experience up to 5 years’ experience. The focus of this workshop is to learn how to open a hive for inspection, how to expand hives before they swarm and methods to collect swarms to start a new hive. Topics will also include bee ecology, hive components and construction, beekeeping equipment, bee nucs, bee packages, feeding and caring for bees, integrated pest management and colony collapse disorder.
