WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT ATTENDING THIS PROGRAM DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC
In an effort to protect the Health and Safety of VSU students and employees, and the surrounding communities, Virginia State University has developed the specific COVID protocol for off-campus University sponsored events (both indoor and outdoor events).
Before you register for and/or attend a VSU sponsored off-campus event, it is important to understand the health guidelines and participant requirements we have adopted to protect the health and safety of our community. Below, you will find the information you need regarding the VSU Off-Campus COVID-19 event protocols.
Health Check Requirements
Virginia State University requires that all employees, students, and non-VSU related attendees
Wear face masks (face coverings) at all time while attending a university sponsored off-campus event, regardless of vaccination status, except when actively eating or drinking.
Provide proof of full vaccination against COVID-19, or proof of a negative COVID-19 diagnostic test result (not older than 72-hours), prior to entering the event. The University will identify designate personnel to check vaccination cards and/or negative COVID-19 diagnostic test results.
Adhere to all additional venue, local health departments, and government guidelines or mandates for COVID-19. This may include, but is not limited to, social distancing guidelines, and/or capacity limitations. These guidelines do not negate the above listed required protocol items.
Safety Recommendations
In addition, the University recommends that all participants:
Maintain a social distance of 3-6” when possible
Practice good personal hygiene (hand washing, sanitizing, etc.)
Stay home if you or anyone close to you has experienced any COVID-19 symptoms within the past two weeks or, if you have been knowingly exposed to someone with COVID-19 within the past two weeks.
Symptoms may include: Fever or chills • Cough • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing • Fatigue • Muscle or body aches • Headache • New loss of taste or small • Sore throat • Congestion or runny nose • Nausea or vomiting • Diarrhea
These health checks requirements and safety recommendations are instituted by VSU to help reduce attendee/participant exposure to COVID-19.
All attendees/participants must acknowledge receipt of these requirements and that COVID-19 is a highly contagious respiratory virus that affects people of all ages. The virus can cause long-term medical problems and death regardless of age. This virus spreads through respiratory secretions related to speaking, singing, yelling, coughing and sneezing. Infected individuals can spread the virus to others. Notwithstanding those risks, participants/attendees agree to assume the risk of participation in this University sponsored event, understanding they might be exposed to and become sick from COVID-19 as a result and hold the University and its employees harmless from the consequences or effects caused by such illness.
