Wednesday, March 2, 2022 • 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM

Zoom Event

Tracy Porter, VSU-SFOP Regional Program Assistant for Eastern Virginia, will conduct a presentation on how to greensprout Irish potatoes. Greensprouting is also referred to as “chitting” potatoes. Chitting helps give seed potatoes healthy and sturdy sprouts, which will get them off to a good start once planted. Topics will include white potato varieties; maturity dates; characteristics such as skin and flesh color; disease-resistant varieties; low glycemic varieties; how and where to obtain seed potatoes; supplies and equipment needed; when to chit and when to plant; and the steps and techniques required to successfully chit your seed potatoes.
