How to Plant and Grow Irish (White) Potatoes

Tracy Porter, VSU-SFOP Regional Program Assistant for Eastern Virginia, will present a workshop on how to plant and grow the Irish (white) potato. Topics will include varieties, including low glycemic and disease-resistant varieties; maturity dates; how to greensprout (or chit) seed potatoes to increase success at planting time; soil amendments; drip irrigation and plastic mulch; integrated pest managemenat for weeds, disease, insects, and wildlife; the benefit of side dressing and hilling your rows during the growing season; and fertigation and foliar application of micronutrients
