Southside Sustainable Agriculture Tour

Join us for a one-day tour of Southside area farms to see four operations with various planting, growing and harvesting techniques, as well as successful marketing strategies. Tiver Farm. Bill Tiver produces 11 acres of mixed vegetables, including seven acres of sweet corn. He will share methods for operating without hired labor, using planting, recordkeeping and other strategies for efficiency. Clark Farm. Container crops are featured. Jimmy Clark grows nearly 20 different crops in more than 150 containers. Chandler Farm. Mark Chandler will show the farm’s greenhouse and high tunnel, the pond, and a commercial aquaculture operation. Thaxton Farm. Robert and John Thaxton grow vegetables, eggs, pigs, chickens and goats. Robert has been able to produce fresh vegetables throughout the winter months in his high tunnel over the past three years.
