Overwintering: Crop Selection, Techniques & Practical Tips

Thursday, February 8, 2024 · 10 am–noon

VSU Randolph Farm Pavilion, 4415 River Road, Petersburg, VA 23803

Overwintering is a great tool to have in the Virginia farmer’s toolbox. Many growers have experienced overwintering at least a few crops, such as garlic and spinach. But in the Mid-Atlantic, there are many opportunities for fall plantings that can put food on your market table when harvests are traditionally scant. During this session, Janet Aardema and Dan Gagnon of Broadfork Farm will talk in depth about a few crops for overwintering success, including onions, leeks, strawberries, cabbage, carrots, spinach, and flowers.
