Soil Health and Nutrient Management for Spring Production

VSU Nutrient Management Specialist Tammy Holler will discuss practices to help you increase your chances for success with spring crop production, including:

  • Nutrient management in spring crop production

  • The importance of soil sampling and understanding the results. If time permits, there will be a demonstration of the proper method of taking and preparing a soil sample for shipment.

  • Water management (irrigation) and using tensiometers to avoid under- or over-watering

  • Benefits of cover crops to soil erosion and fertility, as well as programs available to improve soil and water quality.
