Experience Innovative Agriculture, Culinary Delights, and Community Engagement on August 29 at VSU Randolph Farm

PETERSBURG, Va. — The Virginia State University College of Agriculture (VSU-COA) will host “A Taste of Randolph Farm,” an engaging and educational Field Day event on Thursday, Aug. 29, from 7:30 a.m. to noon at VSU Randolph Farm, 4415 River Road, Petersburg, Virginia.

The event offers a unique opportunity to explore VSU-COA’s innovative programs in food, agriculture, natural resources, and community engagement. Attendees will discover the latest research and initiatives in agriculture, family, youth, and nutrition, with VSU-COA faculty and students sharing insights into their work and its impact on the community. In addition to the VSU community, hundreds of community members, high school students, small farmers, and representatives from various government agencies and officials are expected to attend.

Guests will have the chance to connect with VSU-COA faculty, staff, students, as well as small-scale and urban farmers, and industry partners committed to advancing agriculture in Virginia and beyond. The event will also feature the “Taste of Randolph Farm,” where visitors can sample tilapia, catfish, and trout prepared by Chef Reese, Chef Rose, and VSU hospitality management students, along with lamb prepared by Jessica Queen and Chef Bobby Maddox from Belmont Butchery.

The VSU Trojan Farmer’s Market will showcase value-added products created by students under the guidance of Dr. Theresa Nartea. Visitors can browse a variety of offerings from local vendors, including fresh produce, homemade goods, and specialty items. Additionally, guests can explore the field of flowers and cut their own edible bouquets to adorn their tables, brew healthful teas, or add a unique flavor to their cuisine.

Field Day attendees can enjoy live music and a light breakfast and lunch, provided to all registrants. The event promises to be a family-friendly celebration of VSU’s vibrant agricultural community.

Spaces are filling up quickly, and the event is nearing capacity. Those interested in attending are encouraged to register as soon as possible to secure their spot. Registration can be completed at https://www.ext.vsu.edu/events/2024/08/29/coa-field-day.
