ETTRICK, Va. - Virginia State University (VSU) College of Agriculture will host its 2nd annual AgFest Block Party on Tuesday, March 19, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at VSU Foster Hall on University Ave. The event is free and open to the community.

This event celebrates National Agriculture Day, organized by the Agriculture Council of America, to acknowledge the significance and importance of agriculture. This year’s theme is “Growing a Climate for Tomorrow.”

"When we talk about growing a climate for tomorrow, we really mean creating a space where people can grow together and be involved in the betterment of the broader community,” said Dr. Robert Corley, III, dean and director of Land-grant programs for the College of Agriculture at VSU. “We want to make sure that our community members are able to celebrate agriculture from all aspects – economic development, food production and access, farm to table, shelter, youth development, and much more.”

Anticipating hundreds from the local community, including over 100 K-12 students, in addition to the VSU student population, faculty and staff, VSU’s AgFest will feature music, food, entertainment, and interactive STEM-related learning exhibits for all ages. Attendees will have a chance to learn about the importance of agriculture and how it impacts their everyday lives.

“AgFest is relevant to all of our community members,” said Dr. Janine Woods, associate extension administrator for the College of Agriculture at VSU. “Whether they're in traditional agricultural production, like our farmers, community members who care about food access, or youth curious about where their food comes from, there is a space for you at this event.”
