Thursday, February 28, 2019
1PM - 4PM
VSU Randolph Farm Pavilion
4415 River Rd., Petersburg, VA
This educational workshop is free and open to the public.
Farmers can benefit from installing and using drip irrigation systems in fields and high tunnels to help them:
Improve crop development and yield
Reduce costs by using low-pressure or gravity-fed systems
Decrease fertilizer run-off
Control weed growth
Grace Summers, VSU Small Farm Outreach Program Agent, and Tammy Holler, Nutrient Management Specialist, will discuss different designs for drip irrigation systems for application in fields or in high tunnels.
Participants will learn about factors to consider when planning the type and size of drip irrigation system to install on your farm. System operation and maintenance will be discussed along with water management practices for vegetable production. Participants will see a demonstration on how to install a simple drip irrigation system during the workshop.
