Improving the Soil Health on your Farm

Improving your farm's soil health increases yields which results in net profit. Using cover crops along with good fertility management can provides multiple benefits to your soil's health. VSU Small Farm Outreach Program Nutrient Management Specialist Tammy Holler and Anthony Howell with USDA NRCS along with the local Soil and Water Conservation District representative will discuss steps that can be taken to improve your soil's health.
Topics will include:
Understanding soil characteristics
How to take a soil test and interpret results
NRCS programs for landowners, especially nutrient management and water quality programs
The role of your Soil and Water Conservation District and SWCD programs
Cover crops that you can use to improve your soils
